How Fotos uses artificial intelligence to power photo delivery and studio features.
Last updated: March 2025
Fotos uses artificial intelligence primarily for face-based photo delivery. When a guest at an event takes a selfie, our AI system scans the event photo library and identifies images in which that guest appears. This allows us to automatically deliver only the relevant photos to each individual — without any manual sorting by the photographer.
When a guest scans the QR code and submits a selfie, Fotos generates a temporary facial embedding (a mathematical representation of facial features). This embedding is compared against embeddings derived from the uploaded event photos. Matched photos are then delivered to the guest. The selfie itself is not stored beyond the matching process.
Fotos does not permanently store biometric data or facial embeddings. Face embeddings generated during the matching process are held temporarily in memory and deleted once delivery is complete. We do not build facial databases or use embeddings for any purpose other than delivering photos from a specific event.
In addition to guest delivery, Fotos may use AI to assist photographers with features such as automatic event tagging, duplicate detection, and smart search within their archive. These features process photos locally or in isolated jobs and do not share data across studios.
Guests who wish to opt out of AI-based face matching may do so by not submitting a selfie. Photographers who do not wish to use AI features may disable them from studio settings. For questions or deletion requests, contact us at [email protected].
